trekking and food on the Path of the Wanderer

The stretch of road that connects Lecco to the main centres along the shoreline of the lake – Abbadia, Mandello, Varenna and Colico  is an opportunity to enjoy the evocative artistic, historical, cultural and natural heritage situated along its route. The Path of the Wanderer is an ancient way built on the hillside that winds in and out of the villages ending up in Valtellina – in fact you could continue on to Switzerland. The route is about 45 km long and can be split into three or four parts; or you can go along it unhurried according to your wishes. This ancient walkway often intersects the railway line connecting Milan with Tirano allowing you to return to your starting point by train without having to go back along the trail. The route, however, is easily walkable in any season. The level of difficulty varies from easy to medium, making it viable for all. Along the way are inns or taverns where you can relax and eat some typical local dishes. In Varenna on the Path of the Wanderer, you will find Vezio Castle with its historic watchtower where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake or in
summer attend an exhibition of hawks and raptors and have lunch.
